Growing old is one of the greatest fears of people at this modern age, as indicated by some reports, along with poverty and death caused by serious diseases.
It may often be associated with weakness and senility, but it doesn't necessarily mean we cannot prevent ourselves from being weak as we age.
Our modern technology has found ways on how to prolong life possibility through advanced procedures, and just recently, it started to reduce risks of heart disease and cancer rates. With that being said, people are living longer and more likely to deal with different aspects of aging. However, societies find it hard to raise and allocate enough funds for elderly care so most of them struggle to break the link between growing old and poorer health.
Most people say that poor health and vague memory are inevitable as we age, but that is just pure myth. Healthy aging can be easily attained, that is, if you would follow these simple tips:
  • Just like what young people do, maintain a healthy and balanced diet. Never forget eating on time, as this is the period when you need more nutrients for fighting diseases. You may wish to consult your doctor to know if there are food restrictions you should take note of.
  • Eat more fiber-rich foods such as vegetables, fruits, and whole grains to help your digestive system. Also maintain proper hydration as older people are more prone to lack of enough fluid in the body.
  • Put exercise in your daily routine. It will help you to stay fit and have a stronger body. Remember to seek the advice of your doctor before starting on a workout program to find out if it will affect your current health condition and if it will be suitable for your medication, if you are taking any.You could start on walking daily, as it is one of the best ways to stay fit. You can practically do it anywhere and without using any exercise equipment, so it is very convenient.
  • Do not forget to take your glass of milk that will give you the calcium you need for stronger bones. Older people are often affected by arthritis problems so drinking it will do a lot of help.
  • Stay energized by engaging into physical activities such as a neglected hobby or playing with your grandchildren or a favorite pet.
  • Get enough sleep for at least 10 hours a day to help you get more energy. It will also help you stay in the mood.
  • Maintain a regular checkup schedule with your trusted doctor for better monitoring of your health condition.
  • Staying happy also means being healthy. Some people say that it also can make you look younger, so try to do the things that you make you happy, may it be reconnecting with your relatives and friends or engaging into volunteer groups to further strengthen your social bond. Finding your purpose in helping other may enrich your personality and expand your limits.
  • Also work in making your brain sharper. You can invest in buying mind games like puzzles and crosswords. You may also try something new each day such as learning a new language or trying an activity which you have never done before.
